Dick Walsh

After qualifying as an architect in 2005 Dick began writing and making his own short films and documentaries. In 2008 whilst completing a Masters in Film he began working with post-dramatic theatre makers based in Galway, and looking at the overlaps between the two forms.

In 2010 he set up Side-show productions with Martin Sharry. Their first show, Dreams of Love debuted at the Dublin Fringe Festival 2011. In 2012 Dick began working on his own. He wrote and performed A Dangerman which opened at The Dublin Fringe festival, and also performed at Summerhall Edinburgh, Cork, Electric Picnic and Galway Comedy Festival. In 2013 he wrote Some Baffling Monster, again performed at The Dublin Fringe and Galway Theatre Festival.

He subsequently became an Associated Artist with Pan Pan Theatre. He has performed with them as an actor in their most recent show The Seagull and Other Birds which toured Ireland and Germany. As part of the greater project of Americanitis Presents: he wrote a full play called Segues, sections of which were incorporated in the text of The Seagull and other Birds. He is currently writing a play called Marya for which he has received development funding from the Irish Arts Council. He is a current participant in ‘Six in the Attic’ for the Irish Theatre Institute.

For Pan Pan’s International Mentorship & Bursary Programme 2013 with Viviane De Muynck, Dick looked at war stories and developed his play Some Baffling Monster. In June 2014 Pan Pan presented Dangerman and Some Baffling Monster in Project Arts Centre.
