THE IDIOTS
Dublin Theatre Festival, Project Arts Centre 2007
Confrontational from its opening moments … sincerely experimental
The Guardian
by Lars von Trier
“A quick summary? It was about shagging as many as possible as quickly as possible.”
Based on the Lars von Trier film of the same title, The Idiots follows a group of young people who share one interest: idiocy. Deciding to take up arms against existing social norms by pretending to be “idiots” they spend all their spare time together exploring the hidden and less appreciated values of idiocy. They practice! But when members of the group meet Karen, she becomes embroiled in their game, and begins to participate in their diversions…
The Idiots is not really a play. It is more like a social experiment … From the very beginning, The Idiots will not be easy to watch.
